Every Coen Brothers Movie Ranked Worst To Best
2. The Big Lebowski (1998)
Outside of Fargo, The Big Lebowski is the quintessential Coen Brothers film. Not only does this surreal comedy of errors feature the filmmakers' best-ever character in the form of Jeff Bridges' dangerously relaxed and philosophical The Dude, but it also features the pair at their most hilarious, confident, weird and original.
With Bridges giving his greatest performance (or at least his most iconic), the film finds The Dude acting as a go-between for a wealthy businessman (David Huddleston) and the men who have kidnapped his young wife (Tara Reid). Though his role in the situation starts off simple and small, The Dude and his friend Walter Sobchak (John Goodman) soon find themselves lost in the intricacies of the kidnapping and its aftermath.
The Coens' fantastically bizarre and unfiltered script is aided by the supporting powers of Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman and John Turturro, and manages to mix its crime-thriller story with zany, quotable comedy as only the Coen Brothers could pull off.
If it wasn't for one other film, The Big Lebowski would easily top this list...
