Every Denis Villeneuve Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Enemy (2013)

Enemy Jake Gyllenhaal
A24

Villeneuve's second collaboration with Jake Gyllenhaal, released in the same year no less, is a fantastically twisted thriller, revolving around two physically identical men who come to learn of each other's existence.

Gyllenhaal is mesmerising in the dual role, while Villeneuve's daring direction begs the viewer to pay attention and embrace the abstract.

Enemy will be too weird for some tastes (though it's never quite as odd as Maelstrom's talking fish), but it's worth sticking with for the sheer, dread-soaked atmosphere that bleeds from every frame, and a stunningly terrifying ending that's had audiences routinely requiring a fresh change of underwear.

Fingers crossed this isn't the last time Gyllenhaal and Villeneuve end up working together, because they're such a great team.
