Every Denis Villeneuve Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

Villeneuve's breakthrough to the mainstream came with this intoxicatingly unpleasant thriller starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Both actors give two of their best performances to date while Villeneuve explores the ethics of a missing child scenario to deliriously bewildering effect.

The 153-minute film carries its meaty runtime exceptionally well, not only because of Jackman, Gyllenhaal and Villeneuve's work, but also the fantastic, Oscar-nominated cinematography of the legendary Roger Deakins.

While it might be too grim for some audiences in places, Prisoners is an ambitious, agonisingly suspenseful and superbly acted film from start to finish.

That neither Jackman nor Gyllenhaal received much awards love for their work is, frankly, criminal.
