It's a testament to Denzel Washington's powerful screen presence that he manages to make The Bone Collector bearable despite its sloppy execution.

Based on the novel by Jeffrey Deaver, it follows Washington's quadriplegic forensic expert Lincoln Rhyme as he teams up with a rookie officer (Angelina Jolie) to take down a serial killer.

It's simple, predictable stuff, all told, but the subtle tragedy and commanding voice Washington brings to the melodrama is pretty remarkable.
