Every Fast & Furious Movie Ranked Worst To Best

6. The Fast And The Furious (2001)

Furious 7
Universal Pictures

Noted for basically being Point Break with cars, the first Fast and the Furious flick is much less daring and over-the-top than its successors, but carries with its simple tale of street racing thieves an endearing level of charm and nostalgia.

Tracking undercover cop Brian as he attempts to bring down Dom whilst falling for Dom's sister Mia (Jordana Brewster), The Fast and the Furious is a long way from the space-featuring madness of F9, but with Paul Walker's strong leading turn and Vin Diesel's mysterious allure, it's nonetheless a fun little cat-and-mouse action romp.

Even if some of the character drama struggles to live up to the more high octane action sequences director Rob Cohen brings to the table, the film still features enough fun racing sequences and thrilling action beats to make up for most of its narrative fumbles.

Sure, it's the most "realistic" film of the franchise, and its stunts are less superficially exciting than in the films to come, but the truth is The Fast and The Furious is cool film that holds up well as a 00s action piece when watched in isolation.
