Every Fast & Furious Movie Ranked Worst To Best
7. Fast And Furious (2009)
One of the more divisive films in the franchise, Fast and Furious was the fourth addition to the mainline series, following Dom and Brian as they attempt to take down yet another drug lord.
The key issue with Fast and Furious - other than its confusing title and chronology - is definitely the tone, which finds mainstay director Justin Lin struggling to strike a balance between the previous film's street-racing drama and the more over-the-top blockbuster action sequences he so clearly wants to let rip.
Opening with a great heist sequence in the Dominican Republic, the film starts with great promise, only to slam on the brakes for the rest of the story as Lin indecisively considers what he really wants to achieve.
On a more optimistic note, however, Fast and Furious finds Dom and Brian finally accept each other's friendship, ushering in the era fans are now enjoying with the franchise. It also introduces Gisele Yashar (Gal Gadot), an important figure in later films, and with the crew all back together and the stakes still pretty high, it's a much more refined and emotionally sturdy film than F9 or Fate.
