Every Francis Ford Coppola Movie Ranked Worst To Best
6. Tucker: The Man And His Dream (1988)
Francis Ford Coppola directing a comedy-drama biopic about Preston Tucker and his attempts to create the famous 1948 Tucker Sedan doesn't sound like a match made in heaven, and yet it most certainly is.
Coppola's most underrated and joyful picture casts Jeff Bridges as the titular entrepreneur as he battles a growing scandal and his own starry-eyed dreams of success. Watching it, you can't help but think about how personal a story it is for the director, given Coppola's bumpy 80s track record and his recent failures.
Whether this was intended or not is a matter for debate, but there's no denying Tucker: The Man and His Dream is one of Coppola's most expertly crafted and moving films. It's innovative and funny, dramatic and even tragic, and between the spotless assessments of American capitalism and Jeff Bridges' rarely-better performance, it's simply divine and begs to be seen.
