Every Halloween Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

There are few, if any, franchises with a weirder history than Halloween.

This franchise has literally been rebooted not once, not twice, but FIVE times and nearly all of its instalments are now non-canon, so Michael Myers has had a stranger journey than any other slasher movie villain.

Quality-wise, it's been similarly inconsistent. Halloween got off to an absolutely amazing start but the sequels have been wildly up and down, with almost none of them understanding what made the original work. Nearly all of these movies have good things within them and the strong set-pieces, rich lore and excellent casts have kept them watchable but the writing has consistently let these movies down and few of them are truly scary like the original was. Therefore, this is a frustratingly uneven series.

With the delayed Halloween Kills finally out, it's a great time to see how the movies stack up. Obviously, you can guess what number one is but how do the other movies rank?

Plot: The baby of Jamie Lloyd (J.C. Brandy) is pursued by both Michael Myers and a mysterious cult, while Tommy Doyle (Paul Rudd - yes, that Paul Rudd) and Dr Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasance) try to protect the child.

While many might argue a certain other film is the nadir of the series (don't worry, we'll get to that one shortly), The Curse of Michael Myers, which is an utterly worthless movie, is arguably the worst.

After all, not only is a stunningly dreadful cinematic train-wreck filled with bottom-of-the-barrel directing, mostly appalling acting (even from Paul Rudd, who gives an utterly bizarre performance), shockingly bad writing and what is literally some of the worst editing you'll ever see, but it represents pretty much everything the franchise has done wrong over the years.

The biggest issues with the Halloween sequels were the lack of scares, major characters getting underwhelming deaths and Michael Myers being demystified and ruined - this movie takes those flaws up to eleven.

The series has never been less scary, Jamie Lloyd (who was recast with a completely inferior actress to Danielle Harris) is unceremoniously killed off early on and the Curse of Thorn, the film's explanation for Michael Myers' killing, is one of the worst plot elements ever seen in any horror movie.

So yes, this is arguably the worst Halloween film ever made and with the franchise taking a break after Halloween Ends in 2022, that's unlikely to change.
