Every Halloween Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

9. Halloween 5: The Revenge Of Michael Myers

Halloween Kills
Galaxy Releasing

Plot: Having survived the events of the previous film, Michael Myers returns to Haddonfield and goes after his niece Jamie (Danielle Harris) again.

Revenge certainly isn't as bad as the next sequel and it does, in fairness, make for a perfectly watchable and occasionally thrilling horror flick. As well as this, it's led by a sensational child actor performance from Danielle Harris. The trouble is, if you want something truly compelling, well-written or scary then Revenge just isn't quite there.

It begins with one of the strangest scenes in the franchise's history: after the previous film, Michael Myers collapsed and a hermit just took him in and kept him, asleep, in his residence for a whole year. Like, seriously?

It doesn't get too much better from there.

The first half is a colossal bore that's devoid of any atmosphere and also sees the weightless death of the previous film's lead; the second half is better, but the entire film is so full of annoying characters, tension-free set-pieces and limp writing that the whole thing is quite a chore to get through.

Revenge is also notable for its terrible cliffhanger ending, which didn't even get explained until the next film was released six years later.

This instalment isn't the worst Halloween film, but it might just be the most forgettable and mediocre of the lot and it remains one of the franchise's low-points.
