Every Hellraiser Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Hellraiser: Deader
Another straight-to-DVD offering that began life as a non-Hellraiser screenplay, Deader actually turned out well compared to what came immediately before and after.
The seventh entry in the series stars Kari Wuhrer as investigative reporter Amy Klein, who’s on a mission to get to the bottom of a video tape seemingly depicting a ritualistic murder-resurrection.
The assignment takes her to the shadowy underbelly of Romania, a location the movie takes full advantage of with some nice cinematography around its capital city, Bucharest, and effective punk imagery.
There’s also a few decent scares, namely when Amy reaches to retrieve the puzzle box from beside a decomposing corpse and the thing suddenly springs to life. It’s a cheap trick we’ve seen many times before, but it works nevertheless.
With its Barker-esque imagery, Deader’s pre-Hellraiser roots remain concealed and solid performances from Wuhrer and the ever-chilling Bradley carry the film.
