Right, that's the bad films over and done with... sort of anyway. The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise topped the box office for the second year in a row with its third film yet this has been something of a critical punching bag since its release. But are the bad reviews fair? To be honest, not really.
It is ridiculously overlong and wildly convoluted but it should be acknowledged that the film has a bold and often touching narrative for a family blockbuster and it's well-acted aside from Orlando Bloom. As well as this, even throughout the three hours, the film stays watchable and only becomes terrible in the awful Davy Jones Locker scenes.
There's enough of the great action, flawless music and stunning special effects that have defined this franchise to make this a decent three-star movie and one that's mercifully far better than On Stranger Tides.
