2. The Mandalorian

Some 14-years after George Lucas unveiled plans for a live-action Star Wars series depicting the seedy underbelly of the galaxy, the idea is (sort of) finally coming to light.

The Mandalorian will follow a lone gunslinger in the outer reaches, far from the authority of the New Republic. Taking place just a few years after Return of the Jedi, there's a lot more to explore in that era than, say, between Episodes III and IV, and putting the focus on a Mandalorian should mean fully doing justice to such a cool concept in a live-action sense.

The talent both behind-the-scenes and in front of the camera is incredible: Jon Favreau is producing and writing, with Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa Deborah Chow, and Taika Waititi all signed up to direct. The cast, meanwhile, includes Pedro Pascal in the lead, and support from Nick Nolte, Giancarlo Esposito, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, and Werner Herzog. There's a big budget, but also it sounds like a lot of care and attention has gone into crafting the series too, which should deliver a live-action Star Wars series worth the wait.
