Every In-Production Fox Marvel Movie That Could Join The MCU

7. The New Mutants

The New Mutants has been in development over at 20th Century Fox since 2015, and thanks to a delay that pushed an initial April 2018 release date back to August 2, 2019, it's possible the film could eventually fall within the MCU.

The delay was the result of reshoots meant to make the film more frightening. While this is the 13th installment in the X-Men movie franchise, it differs greatly in that it is a horror film centering around the characters as they attempt to escape from a secret facility where they are held against their will.

The New Mutants won't fall within the MCU directly since it is already completed and doesn't have a place within Phase 4 of the MCU, but the plan from the onset was to make it the first film in a trilogy. The plot actually works in the film's favor when porting it over to the MCU, and it could help to ease the transition.

If the Mutants from the first film are trapped in an institution they need to escape from, the second film could be one that takes place entirely within the MCU once Mutants are introduced post-Endgame. The reason they weren't around previously is their imprisonment, but what might be a tough sell is finding a way to bridge the gap between the horror genre and the sci-fi/action/adventure/comedy genres of the wider MCU.
