Every James Bond Finale Ranked

6. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - Blofeld's Clinic

James Bond Quantum of Solace
United Artists

This cracking instalment is actually a bit of a slow one; there's very little action in the film's first half. Therefore, the movie needed a hell of an explosive ending to pay off all that build-up... it sure as hell delivered.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service's finale - which takes the form of an assault on Blofeld's (Telly Savalas) base in the Alps - is a stone-cold banger. Much like the rest of the film's set-pieces, it's beautifully directed by Peter Hunt (who sadly only directed this one Bond film), has aged exceptionally well and is a superbly designed sequence that offers that note-perfect mixture of bombastic thrills and white-knuckle suspense all the best Bond set-pieces have.

The subsequent bobsled chase between Bond (George Lazenby) and Blofeld chase is absolutely delightful as well and only makes this climax even greater.

This climax gets overshadowed by the subsequent scenes - the devastating murder of Bond's wife - and that's a damn shame, for this is genuinely one of the greatest Bond finales of all time.
