Every James Bond Finale Ranked

7. You Only Live Twice - Volcano Battle

James Bond Quantum of Solace
United Artists

The ending of You Only Live Twice is glorious insanity.

It's a beautifully choreographed and deliciously thrilling finale that, despite the film's age, still looks great and also unfolds in what is easily the best Bond set of all time - Blofeld's (Donald Pleasance) iconic volcano lair, complete with a pool of pet piranhas.

This ending was heavily parodied in Austin Powers, but not even that link to those utterly insufferable parody films can put a damper on it, which is a testament to its awesomeness.

It might not quite be the best Bond climax (it does feel a tad goofy at times), but it's possibly the most iconic and you could fairly call it the quintessential Bond climax.

After all, it's got crazy gadgets, a delirious evil lair, a pool of man-eating fish, epic stunts and an unhinged yet utterly delightful vibe of otherworldly, glamorous escapism running through the whole thing. It really, really doesn't get much more 'Bond' than this.
