Every James Bond Movie Pre-Credits Scene Ranked Worst To Best

23. For Your Eyes Only - Bond Kills Blofeld

James Bond Goldeneye Opening

For Your Eyes Only is a terrific movie, but the pre-credits scene is a complete disaster on every level.

Bond, after visiting the grave of his wife, gets into a helicopter which turns out to be a remote-controlled one operated by a man (played by John Hollis and voiced by Robert Rietti) who is clearly Blofeld but is not identified due to the rights issues about the character.

Having been unable to bring back Blofeld properly, this scene - which ends with Bond regaining control of the helicopter, picking Blofeld up and dropping him down a chimney to his death - was evidently Eon saying "To hell with it" and concluding the character's story, but they really should've just left Blofeld alone.

It's already flippant and jarring as hell to see Blofeld reduced to an un-named pre-credits kill, but what makes it worse is that this scene turns him into a complete joke.

His plan was so stupid, since Bond could easily regain control of the helicopter, and him being dropped down a chimney while wailing "Don't! Please don't! Mr Bond!!!!" was utterly toe-curling. Distractingly, Bond also looks far too relaxed considering that he's finally getting revenge on the man who killed his wife.

Robert Rietti's good vocal performance, John Glen's assured direction and this being the rare instance when the films acknowledged Tracy Bond's death is all that kept this from the bottom spot.
