Every James Bond Movie Pre-Credits Scene Ranked Worst To Best

17. From Russia With Love - Red Grant Murders A Man Dressed As Bond

Dr No doesn't have a pre-credits scene, so From Russia with Love's is the franchise's first such sequence and for the most part, it's a good one too. The sight of 'Bond' being strangled to death is easily one of the most startling moments of the early films.

From Russia with Love's opening is a bit weird - what exactly was the point of dressing that man as Bond? - and there's a jarringly bad sound effect when Red Grant garrottes the unfortunate man but it is still an undeniably striking and unsettling opening that benefits hugely from director Terence Young's steady hand and the presence of Red Grant, who's one of the all-time greatest Bond villains.
