Every James Bond Movie Ranked Worst To Best

6. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)

Spectre Daniel Craig
United Artists

Even when compared to the more introspective Craig years, On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the 007 series' most personal and emotionally devastating movie, as well as its most left-field and out of place.

Starring Australian actor George Lazenby in his only James Bond appearance, the anomalous thriller pits Bond against Spectre once more, only this time there's a genuinely tender romance brewing in the centre of the conflict between Bond and Diana Rigg's innocent countess Tracy di Vicenzo.

Though not lacking the franchise's typical flare for borderline impossible stunt work, On Her Majesty's Secret Service soars with the emotional resonance and melancholy of its story.

Lazenby - a man who really deserved another couple films to strut his stuff - offers a strikingly vulnerable performance throughout, and between the acting chops, the gorgeous opening sequence and the heartwrenching closing scene, the black sheep of the Bond series cemented itself as one of the best 007 films ever made.
