Every James Cameron Film Ranked Worst To Best
7. Aliens Of The Deep (2005)
This movie was amidst James Cameron's impressive run of Disney/ National Geographic documentaries, a couple of which he sat in director's chair for. This particular IMAX 3D installment was co-directed by Steven Quale, but it has Cameron all over it, quite literally.
Heading a team of deep sea explorers (real ones this time) in order to seek out previously undiscovered life at the surface of the ocean, was a task fitting for JC to be at the forefront of. Not only that, but he and his team further collate their findings to hypothesise the likelihood of there being alien life beneath the ice-covered surface of Jupiter's moon, Europa.
So we get a movie which is part fact and part fantasy. It's dazzling, engaging, educational, and most definitely worth a watch at least once. For better or worse, and if nothing else, its an insight into the imagination and determination possessed by Cameron. He actually seems like a nice guy, egocentric or not.
The dazzlingly naff ending, inspired largely by the ending to The Abyss, does however break the real-life clarity of the rest of the film. Good fun definitely, but was it really necessary?
