Every James Cameron Film Ranked Worst To Best

3. The Terminator (1984)

The movie that started so many things... Most of which you know.

It's easy to overlook the feat of making a nail-biting chase movie, which also injects a credible dose of horror, post-apocalyptic sci-fi, and action. Nowadays, a lot of movies in this genre are a little messy and self-destructive, whereas the entire concept and structure of The Terminator is remarkably simple. A killer robot hunts his victim. Only a lone warrior stands in its way, and of course, the odds are stacked against the heroes.

Yet it's virtually impossible to pick a fault with it. In taking just a handful of story tropes and adding a truck-load of substance, James Cameron hit the jackpot. The Terminator had it all, and with just one exception, no other movie of its kind has ever bested it. More on that exception later.

The charming visual effects of this film may now look outdated, and the action may seem meagre, but The Terminator holds a level of atmosphere and personality which will never stagnate. The word 'classic' is not misused in this instance.
