Every James Wan Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
9. Insidious: Chapter 2
One sequel James Wan did opt to return for, though, was Insidious: Chapter 2, which despite releasing three years after the original's premiere, has all the hallmarks of an unimaginative follow-up rushed out to quickly cash-in on the first film's success.
While competently made and solidly acted, the second Insidious is really just more of the same, minus the novelty of surprise that the original brought with it.
Low on soul-shaking scares while even occasionally inviting unintentional laughs, it's a mostly typical, ho-hum sequel that doesn't really have much of a creative reason to exist beyond milking the franchise cash cow.
At least we got another appearance from Lin Shaye, who as demonologist Elise Rainier is the undeniable MVP of the entire series. But of all the films in Wan's back catalogue, this is by far the most pedestrian and forgettable.
