Every James Wan Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
8. Malignant
Unlike Insidious: Chapter 2, few would call Malignant a boring, safe horror film. Wan's latest effort may be extremely uneven and prone to bouts of unintentional comedy, but there's also a daring inventiveness to much of what he puts on the screen.
Yes, the writing is frequently hokey and the performances aren't really up to snuff, but Wan's sensory assault counts for a lot, as does a mesmerisingly over-the-top finale that horror fans are surely going to still be talking about years and years from now.
It's far from your typical, unimaginative multiplex horror film, even if it's tough to blame anyone who deems it an ambitious failure. This isn't a crowd-pleaser like Wan's most successful horror romps, but it will definitely go down a treat with a certain subset of open-minded genre fans.
