Every Jared Leto Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
4. The Thin Red Line (1998)
Terrence Malick's epic war film The Thin Red Line is pure cinematic poetry - a visually jaw-dropping piece of work and surely the most contemplative war movie ever made.
Much has been written about how Malick famously re-shaped the film in editing to be far more of a roving ensemble piece, such that original star Adrien Brody was ultimately relegated to a mere cameo.
Leto himself has a small role in the movie as Lt. Whyte, who while lasting just a few minutes before being killed off, gives Leto the space to deliver a gripping, largely wordless performance as a fear-wracked soldier thrown into the hellish midst.
Though Malick's film was unavoidably overshadowed by Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan upon release, on its own merits it's the most purely artful take on cinematic warfare ever committed to screen.
