Every Jon Favreau Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
2. The Jungle Book (2016)
When it was announced that Disney were making live action redos, the question of how anyone would outdo the 1967 original was an incredibly pertinent one. Luckily for everyone, Disney hired Jon Favreau and managed to make a film that sits alongside the original as a beautiful companion piece. He didnt so much remake it, as make a sibling in a different medium to give fans another way to appreciate the old magic.
Whether it is better isnt really the point: it is a triumphant retelling of Rudyard Kiplings story that is soaked in nostalgia (including a host of Easter Eggs from the animated classic) but simultaneously ground-breaking.
The characters are familiar but bold, the world stunning and authentic, despite being built almost entirely with CGI and the vision beautiful. How Favreau could go from the self-conscious containment of Chef to this is entirely unbelievable.
