Every Kevin Smith Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Dogma (1999)
Allowing a motormouth like Smith take a stab at religion satire was always going to let loose some fireworks and Dogma doesn't disappoint on that front. Sure, it is uneven at times, but when it is glorying in Smith's ability as a snarky, super-intelligent screenwriter and in an unashamed critique of organised religion it is a great watch.
The cast is brilliant, reuniting Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and featuring the likes of George Carlin, Chris Rock, Jason Lee and (brilliantly) Alan Rickman, and the script is as funny as it is outrageous, never poking too much outright fun at religion but never entirely skirting the important issues.
It is pithy and knowing with Smith's own special brand of swagger and the very idea of a stoner religious satire is just so perfectly him it's unreal.
