Every Kevin Smith Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
9. Jersey Girl (2004)
There are some that will have you believe that Jersey Girl doesn't deserve the bad rep it has, that Smith deserves praise for messing with his own formula and trying something different. Those people have missed the point somewhat.
Jersey Girl is commendable for Smith's bravery in tackling different subject matter, and there is a tender, personal story in there about his wonderment at being a father, but it is painfully reduced by his over-reliance on tired formula and the safety he finds in familiarity.
It is in no way as provocatively bad as his more recent work, but it's just bland and hampered quite horribly by Jennifer Lopez's sudden revelation that she was a horrible actress and Ben Affleck not being sure of what he was supposed to be doing. It's wayward, no matter how well-spirited, and it's utterly, fatally forgettable.
