Every M. Night Shyamalan Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Split

Unbreakable Bruce Willis
Universal Pictures

Shyamalan seemed to cement his "comeback" after The Visit with Split, an ingeniously-premised thriller which gave James McAvoy the floor to deliver arguably the strongest performance of his entire career.

A tightly wound psychological thriller with just enough hints of a supernatural edge, Split dispatches with Shyamalan's signature self-indulgence and over-reliance on plot twists for a refreshingly simple-yet-fascinating genre entry.

It all revolves around McAvoy's sublime and frankly Oscar-worthy performance, though Shyamalan did also get away with dropping one final, hugely unexpected plot twist in the final moments, by confirming Split to be a secret sequel to Unbreakable.

After years in the critical doldrums, it sure was nice to be excited about a Shyamalan film again, even if Glass sadly failed to deliver on the promise of Split's ending.
