Every M. Night Shyamalan Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
1. The Sixth Sense (1999)
And finally, was anything else ever going to take #1? It's the film that began Shamalan's career proper in Hollywood, the monstrous mega-hit with a staggering six Oscar nominations (including Best Screenplay and Best Director for Shyamalan at the mere age of 29), over $650 million at the box office and one of the worst-guarded plot twists of all time.
The Sixth Sense is much more than its famous surprise, though, a creepy, extremely atmospheric thriller with magnificent performances from Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment and Toni Collette.
Shyamalan's direction is admirably restrained and he favours psychological terror over flamboyant parlour tricks. His peaking so early may have in essence caused his mid-career slump, but the pic's overwhelming power is something no critic or dud movie can take away from him.
How would you rank Shyamalan's output? Have you seen Split yet? Shout it out in the comments!
