Every Major Cinematic Universe Ranked From Worst To Best

9. J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World

Star Wars Shared Universe
Warner Bros.

Ten years, eight movies, constant critical praise (each entry in the series is currently rated between 78% and 96% on Rotten Tomatoes), almost 20 hours of cinema and $7.7bn in box office receipts. Make no mistake, the Harry Potter franchise was, is and probably always will be at the very forefront of popular culture. With those kinds of statistics, there was no chance that Warner Bros. were going to let such a lucrative cash cow run dry. Enter Fantastic Beasts...

Although the cynical among us may question the decision to turn relatively sparse source material into a five-movie blockbuster franchise, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them marked a welcome return to J.K Rowling's Wizarding World, with the first installment serving as both a prequel and expansion of the mythology as well as a solid effects-driven blockbuster.

It may not have hit the critical and commercial heights of Harry Potter, but the movie's success proved (as if it needed to) that there was still an audience for stories set in Rowling's richly detailed world. Provided that Fantastic Beasts manages to avoid running out of steam over its four sequels, the Wizarding World will continue to be one of cinema's premiere shared mythologies.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
