Every Major MCU Hero Death Ranked From Worst To Best

5. Loki

Avengers: Endgame
Marvel Studios

Like Vision, Loki has died several times on screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, unlike Vision, most of these were simply illusions from the trickster god. Loki has actually only died for real once, and it came when he tried to save his brother’s life.

Ever since they were children, Loki had hated living in Thor’s shadow, and had tried to kill him on several occasions. Yet, by the time they saved Asgard together, he was a different man. He tried to trick Thanos, before attemping to kill the Mad Titan, something that ended with him having his neck snapped.

After Loki apparently died at the end of Thor only to turn up in The Avengers, and again seemingly dying in Thor: The Dark World only to rule Asgard disguised as Odin, seeing Loki die for real was quite jarring, particularly in the gruesome manner in which it was done. No resurrections this time.

Thanos made his mark on the MCU immediately in Infinity War, and while killing Heimdall was a big deal, it pales in comparison to his murder of the God of Mischief, and just as Loki was completing his redemption arc and becoming a hero himself.
