Every Major MCU Villain Ranked Worst To Best

1. Loki

He may have been a big part of one of the worst MCU movies, but so good is Tom Hiddleston as Loki that it almost doesn't even matter. The Dark World wasn't dark enough or bad enough to cancel his part in the MCU because he was already a legend.

Introduced in the first Thor movie as the God Of Thunder's upstart runt brother, his lack of physical prowess meant we got to see a villain in the Machiavellian style, conniving and intelligent, manipulating behind the scenes rather than aggressively attacking. But even with the physical mismatch between him and Thor, he was still a capable warrior and skilled in combat. Crucially, thanks to Hiddleston's darkly charming performance, he became a cult hero immediately.

After that first appearance, Loki really hit his stride as the MVP of the MCU in The Avengers when he was given a more typically grand power scheme, which gave him more opportunity to show his childishness, his petulance and his egotism. That meant more theatricality, a markedly improved physical threat and even more snark, fostered in his exile. And from there, he just got better, turning even more duplicitous in Thor: The Dark World (even though it had a catalogue of issues) and Thor: Ragnarok. He might have got some redemption in the end, but that doesn't distract from how great he was as a villain up to that point.

Even death couldn't stop him turning up again and we've got a whole TV series to come yet. Don't expect the Loki train to stop any time soon.
