Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness at once delivered one of the gnarliest MCU movies to date while not quite living up to the full promise of an MCU film directed by Sam Raimi.

Visually it's got some great ideas, and an unforgettable mid-film sequence that pushes the PG-13 rating surprisingly far - you know the one - but the story centered around Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) isn't all that convincing.

Olsen and Cumberbatch at least give solidly free-wheeling performances as the leads, and the film commits harder to Wanda's villainy than most surely expected, even if the particulars of what we're watching don't fully add up.
