Rejoice - another pretty good video game movie!

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is basically just more of the same - a shamelessly goofy family-friendly adventure romp full of Jim Carrey's villainous mugging that cranks the fan service up considerably by introducing Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba).

Like its predecessor it's perhaps lightweight to a fault, but the action rules, even if the human wedding subplot is a major stick in the mud, distending the film out to a patience-testing 122 minutes.

But of course, it was worth sitting through everything to witness that glorious post-credits scene. Bring on Sonic 3, but maybe give it a few more passes in the editing room, yeah?
