Every Martin Scorsese Film Ranked Worst To Best
11. The Wolf Of Wall Street (2013)
With this extravagant and hilariously vulgar comedy-drama, Scorsese created what might just be his most popular and rewatchable film. Based on Jordan Belfort's insane memoir of the same name, the movie charts Belfort's (Leonardo DiCaprio) rise to power on 1980s Wall Street.
A wickedly funny and morally absent tale of excess, greed, money, and crime, The Wolf of Wall Street is overindulgent, crass, and depressingly amusing - but also poignant, scathing and honest.
DiCaprio completely erupts in the lead role, allowing himself to really dig into Belfort's obsessions, additions and eccentricities, and Jonah Hill gives a career-defining performance as Belfort's selfish, ethically bankrupt right-hand Donnie.
Sometimes, the film runs of risk of going too far just for the sake of things, but Scorsese is smarter than that; his flick is boisterous and mocking, but also eye-opening and aptly critical of those being portrayed.
Fast camera work, revealing voiceovers and a top-tier ensemble make The Wolf of Wall Street a dazzling chronicle of the ups and downs of greed.
