23. The Incredible Hulk

While Louis Leterrier's rebootquel of the Hulk timeline is largely remembered rather less than fondly as the MCU's black sheep they'd rather most people forgot, it's nowhere near as poor as it's often painted. It has its problems, of course, but it's far better than Ang Lee's ponderous take.

Leterrier's film has a more assured eye for spectacle and action sequences, and there's an admirable attempt to add an emotional heart by exploring and deconstructing Hulk's human relationships. And the narrative is driven deliciously by William Hurt's excellent General Ross, whose reappearance in the MCU was a major boost for Civil War.

The problem with it is that the emotional attempt doesn't quite ring true, and Tim Roth is clearly having just a little bit too much fun and makes everyone else look bad by chewing all of the scenery when he's not busy smashing it.
