Every Marvel Comic Book Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

20. Deadpool

Deadpool Reynolds
Fox

While Deadpool was widely proclaimed the coolest superhero movie of all time and the tonic to reinvent the genre as it headed catastrophically towards over-saturation, it's little more than a great vehicle for an irresistible performance by Ryan Reynolds.

Despite Reynolds being box office poison for comic book movies, he proved in X-Men: Origins that he was the perfect fit for Wade Wilson, even without the fourth wall breaking and profanity. And his persistence eventually paid off to the tune of a fan-backed Deadpool stand-alone that exists in the space between X-Men movie timelines.

The film is basically the Ryan Reynolds show, which is good, because the rest of it isn't up to his performance at all. He's so hilarious, scathing, and rejuvenating that you don't really notice that the plot is slightly underwhelming and the villains aren't nearly compelling enough.

The film plays like a series of opportunities for Reynolds to show off how well suited he is to the character, and the innovative action sequences are an imaginative breath of fresh air. Let's just hope the addition of Cable means the frame will match the star in the sequel.
