Every Marvel Comic Book Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
16. Big Hero 6
Of course it counts.
Having wowed with their take on the video game universe with Wreck-It Ralph two years earlier, Disney took on the world of superheroes in their first Marvel-tied animation, Big Hero 6. Remarkably, they managed not only to make a great Disney Classic, they also pulled off the feat of creating a comic book movie that outdoes a significant portion of Marvel's feature output.
Even without the buoyancy of the MCU to help it, Big Hero 6 - which is adapted from one of the more obscure comic book titles - takes all of the conventions that form the MCU's pillars of success - characterisation, emotion, a feel-good factor - and applied them to a knowing, self-referential comedy that packs major devastating blows.
Baymax stands out as the MVP, but the combination of almost Amblin-like young characters and his Disney-fied brand power was an inspired take that boasts surprising edge alongside laughs and genuine feels.
Hopefully at least one sequel and other like-minded superhero animations will follow.
