Release Date: July 6, 2018 It's hard to deny that - on the surface, at least - Ant-Man had a handful of things seemingly going against it. From Edgar Wright's public departure from the project after years of work to the simple fact that Marvel had to sell mainstream audiences on the idea of a character named Ant-Man, its release last year was met with much anticipation over how the final product would turn out. Fortunately, the film knocked it out of the park, telling a small-scale story that served as a breath of fresh air after Age of Ultron's world-destroying narrative that fit the characters of Scott Lang and Hank Pym snugly into the MCU. It nicely balanced the line between keeping its tongue in cheek and respecting itself, winning a lot of people over with its simple charms, though a sequel seemed no sure thing considering one hadn't been announced in the original Phase 3 lineup. Now, though, Ant-Man's place in the MCU is permanent, as he's appearing in Civil War before diving into a sequel, this time with Hope van Dyne taking up the mantle of The Wasp once and for all. It's going to be awhile before the details of the sequel come into focus to get fans truly excited for more, but the fact that one is coming at all is already worth rejoicing about.
