Release Date: May 5, 2017 Just like naysayers on the Internet swore up and down for months that Ant-Man would be a huge flop heralding the downfall of Marvel Studios and the MCU, so, too, did they insist that 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy would be the one that tanked. But just like that, oddball characters with names like Star-Lord, Rocket, and Groot became part of the pop culture lexicon overnight, with the film winning over a legion of fans thanks to its high-flying charm. Immensely quotable, armed with a great soundtrack, and packed with a ton of heart, the films popularity is still going strong, guaranteeing that the 2017 follow-up will be an even bigger success. Aside from the core group and supporting faces from the first go-round like Nebula and Yondu returning for Vol. 2, it's long been confirmed that Peter Quill's father will play a huge part - with Kurt Russell presumably still in talks for the role, no less - and that the comic character Mantis will make her MCU debut, likely as the long-teased newest member of the team. From how the team and their next adventure fits into the MCU to what new music fans should expect to hear, expectations are high that the sequel can raise the bar even higher than its predecessor.
