Every MCU Director's Best Film (NOT In The MCU)

14. Louis Leterrier - Unleashed

Just like the general public forgot about The Incredible Hulk, Hollywood seems to have forgotten Louis Leterrier. The French director hasn’t been behind the camera for a big-screen project since 2016, and, with all due respect, it’s not hard to see why.

As well as the thoroughly average Hulk, his catalogue of misfires include Transporter 2, the 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans, Now You See Me and Grimsby. In fairness, it’s not all been terrible. Leterrier helmed Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, which, despite getting cancelled after just one season, received plenty of praise from critics and fans alike.

His best film, however, would be his debut Unleashed, starring Jet Li, Morgan Freeman and Bob Hoskins. Raised into becoming a human attack dog by the mob, a man named Danny the Dog (Li) must protect his new family from his former master (Hoskins).

While the story is nothing to write home about, the action is what you stay for. The martial arts sequences are top notch and Leterrier’s direction helps give Unleashed a unique visual flair.

Accompanied by a pulsating soundtrack, courtesy of Massive Attack, Unleashed has been considered one of Li’s best English-language films. All in all, it’s a perfect example of a movie you can just sit back and relax to and not think too hard about. And sometimes, you need a bit of that in your life.
