33. Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special
After Werewolf By Night, Marvel Studios have been having heaps of fun bringing new and old characters to life in hour-long specials airing directly on Disney Plus, and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special uses the new format wonderfully.
Primarily focussed on Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Drax (Dave Bautista) as they race to earth to kidnap Kevin Bacon (hilariously portrayed by himself) as a Christmas present for Quill (Chris Pratt), the special builds the team's world brilliantly, and teases big things for Vol. 3 of their space-hopping adventures.
Not all of James Gunn's jokes work, true, and most of the team feel sidelined, but the Holiday Special's wholesome, feel-good tone makes it a fun little franchise detour all the same (and definitely better than Star Wars' infamous 1977 effort).
