38. Iron Man 2 (2010)
Wasting little time to respond to their first franchise hit, Marvel released Iron Man 2 just two years after its predecessor, and failed to match the hero's debut.
With Jon Favreau behind the camera once more, Tony Stark's big screen return falls flat from the very first frame, as he's forced into conflict with the US government, a vengeful Russian inventor (Mickey Rourke), a fellow tech billionaire (Sam Rockwell), his own simmering demons, and Sam Jackson's persuasive spymaster Nick Fury.
Colossally overstuffed, Iron Man 2 is made palatable by the performances of Robert Downey Jr, a smarmy Rockwell, and franchise newcomer Don Cheadle, but struggles to find a concrete emotional centre. This is five films rolled into one, and none of them are given room to breathe.
