In an attempt to keep audiences engaged and explore the multiverse they'd created, Marvel introduced the anthology series What If...? in a bid to see the various what-could-have-been scenarios of the Infinity Saga, zombies and all.

With simple but effective animation, episodes centred around Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) becoming her own version of Captain America and T'Challa (the late, great Chadwick Boseman) becoming Star-Lord are particularly exciting at first, and live up to the show's desire to explore alternate realities.

Unfortunately, What If...? falls apart as it attempts to link all its stories together into one epic tale, making it far messier, rushed and over-reliant on heavy-handed fan service than it ever needed to be. There was potential here, but its eyes are bigger than its stomach.
