7. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Despite floundering with the first two Thor solo films, the MCU finally found its footing with the God of Thunder by bringing in director Taika Waititi to helm the much anticipated threequel, Ragnarok.

With added humour and a much lighter approach to the source material, Ragnarok finds Thor trapped away from home, forced to fight the long-missing Hulk for his captors' entertainment, and trying desperately to find his way back to Asgard so he can save his people from his evil sister Hela.

Unquestionably the funniest MCU vehicle to date, the film has an endless supply of charm, expansive set pieces, great supporting characters and quotable one-liners, but under the hilarity it's also a deathly serious tale of Thor accepting his role as king and his duty to protect his home no matter what.

For the God of Thunder, it turns out third time's a charm.
