Every MCU Romance Ranked From Worst To Best
3. Scott Lang & Hope Van Dyne
What made the burgeoning romance between Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne so natural was that it was the perfect illustration of how fine that line between love and hate really is.
Hope was the daughter of Hank Pym and a senior board member of Pym Technologies while Scott was a convicted thief that her father recruited to do the job she was more than capable of doing.
It was a textbook love/hate tale that really contributed to the film's narrative as, despite her intolerance of Scott, Hope would soon realise that he was they key to repairing her troubled relationship with Hank and, in doing so, she saw past his criminal record and began to appreciate him for who he was. Throw in the fact that the chemistry between Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly absolutely sizzled on-screen and Marvel had a gem of a romance on its hands.
A tired old formula, no doubt, but one that the MCU had never really used before and this classic approach would lend itself nicely to their story over and over again as they went from tolerating each other to lovers to exes before they finally found their way back to each other in the sequel.
The story of Scott and Hope is, without a doubt, every bit as enjoyable as the Ant-Man movies, and that is a testament to the strong writing behind both characters.
