Every MCU Romance Ranked From Worst To Best
4. Hank Pym & Janet Van Dyne
There's something to be said for good old-fashioned romance, and none of the Marvel films exemplify that more than Ant-Man and The Wasp.
In a way, Janet van Dyne has always been the linchpin of the Ant-Man franchise. Her death is the reason that her husband, Hank, gave up on his work, why his relationship with their daughter broke down and, if you really think about, it was even responsible for bringing Scott Lang into their lives. It's an unusually strong MCU narrative for something as grounded as a human backstory, so it's safe to say that her first appearance (following her return from the quantum realm) had a lot to live up to.
Despite that pressure, it succeeded. Veteran performers Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer looked into each other's eyes as if they had been doing so their whole lives and it was the fittingly emotional payoff that this wonderful romance needed.
Even without one of the characters on-screen for the majority of the saga, the film successfully managed to produce a long-form story centred on nothing more than love, and it worked to perfection. So, it goes without saying that it's time to start applying that format to some of the other major romances going forward.
