Every MCU Villain Plot Ranked From Worst To Best
13. Taking The Throne Of Asgard - Loki (Thor)
The first villain we see go toe to toe with Thor in the MCU is Laufey, the king of the Frost Giants. With many of the Nine Realms warring with each other more often than not, the rivalry between Jotunheim and Asgard seemed like nothing more than standard, mindless war.
Though there was a macguffin in the form of the Casket of Ancient Winters, there was nothing truly compelling or exiting about Loufey or the Frost Giants. Until, of course, audiences got their first taste of the God of Mischief, and it was revealed that Loki was behind the initial attack.
Thus began the story of one of the MCU's greatest villains. Tired of living in Thor's shadow, Loki engineered his brother's exile, leaving himself to be next in line for the throne behind Odin. Then there was the matter of Loki's true heritage, and the incredible scene between Tom Hiddleston and Anthony Hopkins.
It's easy to empathise with Loki, after discovering he had been lied to all his life by the man he thought to be his father. In the end, rather than live under the rule of his brother, Loki decided to drop from the remains of the Rainbow Bridge to drift through space. The villain's story in Thor was almost Shakespearean, and gave birth to not only one of the most complex villains in the franchise, but one of the most complex characters in general.
