Originally known as Algrim the Strong, Kurse was a Dark Elf acting as Malekith the Accursed's ruthless right-hand. After the war with Asgard thousands of years previously, Algrim gave up his life so he could gain new powers that would allow him to get revenge on the Asgardians.

During his and Malekith's revenge-fuelled assault on Asgard, Kurse was able to kill Frigga and helped his master obtain the Aether.

During his final moments, Kurse faced off against Thor, and viciously beat the God of Thunder with remarkable ease. His strength and single-minded purpose allowed him to deflect Mjolnir and many of Thor's most powerful attacks, and he even "killed" Loki.

He was destroyed by one of his own grenades, detonated by Loki, and without such a last-ditch attempt to beat him, he may have been able to finish Thor off.
