Every Michael Mann Movie Ranked Worst To Best
10. Blackhat (2015)
Mann's most recent film was a major box office flop and remains the director's laziest thriller to date.
The worst thing about Blackhat is how much promise it squanders, from its enthralling espionage plot to the top-tier cast it brings to the table. Chris Hemsworth stars a convicted computer hacker who's life is derailed even further when he gets caught up in an international conflict between America and China.
There are some decent action beats to be enjoyed, but Blackhat ruins the momentum time and time again with a script that's trying far too hard to sound intelligent and serious.
Worse still, Hemsworth is painfully uninspired throughout, failing to anchor the film with any kind of remarkable character development or notable complexities. He himself called his performance "flat," so at least he knows what went wrong.
As noted, there are some so-so action sequences, but between the bloated 130-minute runtime and the inconsistent tone, it's just a serious disappointment.
