Every Mission Impossible Villain Ranked From Worst To Best

5. Solomon Lane - Rogue Nation + Fallout

There's real feel of a tale of two movies for this character, who came across as a solid villain in Rogue Nation, before being a star of the show in Fallout, despite minimal screen time. Sean Harris is a little stiff in his first outing as ex MI6 agent and now terrorist Solomon Lane, playing the character more like a Swiss banker than a man to be truly feared. His mechanical nature does prove effective in multiple execution scenes, his cold and calculated nature at least making him feel like someone not to be trifled with.

Harris' performance in Fallout proves to be villainous perfection, Harris making every moment on screen a winner. The jail time clearly has turned Solomon to an extremely dark place, with a real sense that he is throughly enjoying each moment of suffering from those around him. There is genuine dark delight when he tells Ethan about the 'fallout' of all his good intentions, radiating the feeling that he has a few cards up his sleeves.

His final scene with Ilsa and Benji is epic, the two against one nature of the fight still seemingly having Solomon in the box seat. Why on Earth he casually wonders on the front porch to let Ilsa and Benji know where he is is a bit puzzling, but outside of that Mr. Lane proves to be the perfect villain, who no doubt we will see again.
